2/15–The Hunter Valley (part 2)

Hanging Tree is our next stop, named after the tree at the top of the drive where they would hang the cattle after slaughter to drain the blood.  No cattle there now, and its quite picturesque, with the old blacksmith’s house at the entrance and the vineyards stretching out down the slope.  They’ve landscaped beautifully, with a rose garden and pond out behind the tasting room which is the original barn. Great atmosphere!

The tasting is nice too. The winery gal gives us a great presentation and some pretty good wines too.  We enjoy the tasting, and petting Vodka, the winery Golden Retriever.

Our last stop is Mont View Estates, which is in an equally gorgeous setting.  It’s too darn hot to sit outside and enjoy the view though, so we stuff ourselves into the little tasting room with the A/C that is barely keeping up with the heat – but still better than outside.

Here, our wine gal would fit into Asheville just perfectly.  Tat’s all over – including an incredibly gorgeous Audrey Hepburn on the outside of her arm, that morphed into something else on the inside - and piercings.  Again, great presentation and good wines.  But the scene stealer here is the view.  Even in the heat, it’s worth going out back and snapping pix.

Tour over, we all pile back in the van and start our trek back to the city.  It takes us until 6:00pm to get back to the city limits, and it’s 6:30 before we’re dropped off.  We actually get Bill to drop us off at the Coles shopping center so we can pick up our dinner and save us a couple of blocks of walking.

At Liquorland, we quickly grab a couple extra beers and then run into Coles for crackers.  Dinner done!  We still have the ham and cheese from our first grocery store run, so we’re just snacking.  Which is perfect after filling all day tour.

It’s too hot to even sit on the balcony though, so we snack our way through our food and watch weird Aussie TV until we’re tired enough to sleep. Tomorrow – the ship.
