We are on our final mission of the day – heading back to the Heritage area to find those last damn murals that have eluded us. A 10 minute walk brings us back to the hub bub of the busy tourist area. We make it through the crazy intersection at Chulia and Beach street – you can’t ever tell who is turning where – and actually arrive at Lebuh Ah Quee without any problem. We simply just missed this street on the first tour up here.
The Little Boy on a Motorcycle is right there in on the wall. Yay! As we wait in line (yep, line, its too late in the afternoon not to be crowded, but then again, we get all the Asian girls taking tons of pictures, trying to out pose each other, sigh), I spy another mural of a soccer player (maybe) and snap a couple shots of him while we wait. There is also a little kid with a gas mask on that is oddly interesting.
Finally, our turn arrives with the motorcycle…
The Little Boy with the Pet Dinosaur is only a few feet away…
…and while we find a really cute little dog catching a steak…
…we never do find the Jackie Chan vs. Cat mural. After a few minutes of searching, we give up and turn back toward the ship. It’s time, we’ve covered virtually everything we wanted, and its hot. Happy air on the air conditioned ship is calling our name.
After a short shopping stop where we pick up some peanuts and more Fisherman’s Friend, we are drawn toward a popsicle cooler outside a store. Something we’d normally never do, it is hot enough that we’re game enough to pay 8 MYR ($2USD) each for a Watermelon Lassi (for Ed) and a Jackfruit Lassi (for me) – yes jackfruit! Yummy yummy.
After that, it is straight back to the pier, passing the Wonderfood Museum which is an entire museum that features fake food – some in gigantic proportions. We had debated visiting here, but in the end chose the more local cultural destinations. But at least we got to see a little display of what was we missed in the display outside.
A short block later, we stop to snap some pictures of what apparently is a photo shoot for the store behind the couple. It makes for an interesting photo – in contrasts – beautiful gowns and black tie on the hurdy gerdy streets of Penang.
No more stops for us – we are on a direct line to the ship – after a great day exploring George Town, Penang.
