6/20–Honnigsvag afternoon

Let loose from the bus, we head to the souvenir shop (with free wifi) and have some fun with the Troll…

…then wander down the one main street of the town.  Maggi had mentioned the artist in Kamoyvaer had a store in town, and we were fortunate to find it right away.  Phew. We’ll stop here after lunch and hopefully find our prints.

The rest of the shops on the main street aren’t very interesting.  We’re keeping an eye out for restaurants, but there aren’t any.  Hmmm…then we spy a sign painted on the wall of a building advertising The King Crab House. That’s for us!  But – it appears it is on the lower street, nearer the water.  We’re up top, on the main street trying to figure out how to get down there. We end up billy goat-ing our way down over rocks and a grassy hill to finally find the very unassuming entrance to the restaurant.  Well, you know, when in Honnigsvag!

Turns out to be a lovely little cafe, with a great menu of crab items.  All pricey…but…it’s Norway, and we’ve made our decision to sell our first born for our lunch.  (Good thing none of us has a first born.  LOL)

We settle with the menu and end up with Reindeer stew for Richard, King crab legs with salad for Maggi, King crab soup and King crab salad for Ed and the Tapas appetizer of King crab fritter, Capelin Roe Mousse and – are you sitting down? – Whale meat for me. Yes, we ate whale. OMG, we’ll be thrown out of every endangered species club for life! But – really – it was quite good.  Everything was excellent – the reindeer stew was great, crab excellent and the tapas plate perfect.  A lovely last (and only) meal off the ship for us.

Fully sated, we head back to the ship with detours – Ed and I to the artist shop, Maggi & Richard to the souvenir shop.  We end up buying the trio of prints we first saw on the tour – and are just hopeful it will fit in the suitcase on the trip home. If not, I’m toting it in the overhead.  They kindly wrap it up in lots of bubble wrap for us (and PS – it doesn’t fit in the suitcase – drats!).

Back aboard, we have decided today will be our mimosa on the balcony day. We’ve asked Melany to bring us a couple of glasses of orange juice – and she (bless her heart) leaves an entire pitcher of it in the fridge. We are so good!  Maggi and Richard join us on our balcony…as only suite guests would…in their robes!

Such fun.  We spend a lovely afternoon sipping our mimosas, chatting and just generally watching the comings and goings off the back of the ship.

Later we have drinks and dinner, then back to the cabin for our sail out. Beautiful scenery and we pass by NordKapp again, this time we can see the globe statue up on the mountaintop.  Cool.

Perfect ending to a lovely day.
