Sail into Venice is sadly hazy and misty. It’s the inversion – you can smell the smoke and see that the haze is more manufactured than strictly weather related. We still snap a few shots coming in – but nothing special.
The captain gives a great explanation of Venice and how it is sinking, along with pointing out different sites along the way. He also points out the marathon that is just being completed along the Grand Canal. Oh, the people! Good thing we aren’t doing anything today except wandering around near the Piazzale Roma and Accademia side of Venice.
We dock – at the worst dock – way at the end of the pier – and do our afternoon exercise by walking to the people mover and paying our 1.5 Euro each for the mover (wow – talk about inflation!). Once in the Piazzale, we strike out through town, wandering in the direction of Rialto, and end up just making a big circle around San Rocco Church and back to Accademia.
We stop at a cute café right on a canal with lots of artwork inside, for beer, wine and Internet.
Then head back to the ship, snapping pix as we go….
….to spend the evening aboard in the warmth and relative silence of an empty ship.
