10/18 - Barcelona day 2–afternoon

We walked back to the hotel after the tour and took advantage of the 24 hour snack bar – they still had the breakfast meats out, so that made for a fantastic lunch!

Then we just wandered around the old area, going out to the west again, to a market area (that was sadly not open on Sunday), past some of the university buildings an the Church of Sant Pau del Camp (also closed for mass on Sunday) but picturesque nonetheless.

We rounded out our tour back on La Rambla and then across to the Placa de St. Jaume where we sat and had a beer and wine in the square.  Then we decided to go to the cathedral, just for kicks and grins, and saw an amazing street performer doing the aerialist thing with the large hoop (that we have seen on ships and enjoy).  He was fantastic!

Then around to the cathedral, which we saw for the very first time without any scaffolding.  Beautiful!

And, we actually got to go inside!  During Mass! We could not believe it – but were very happy they allowed it. Fabulously beautiful inside the church with the ornate arched ceilings and gold and stained glass everywhere.

The inside is so large, they have TV screens in the back broadcasting the service!

We wandered back through the meandering alleys, window shopping and people watching.  Then hung out on our balcony doing more people watching until dinner!

Off we go a couple of blocks to Bar Lobo – we’d read about it on TripAdvisor and it seemed to be good.  Plus there was Pulpo for Ed – so we’re there.

Great place with lots of food choices.  And beer and wine!  Ed gets the Beercelona – which is locally brewed, great logo, all the explanation is in English!  Unfortunately, it’s an IPA style, so not a fav, but it’s local,  and that’s what matters..

Food is awesome, we get fried calamari, pulpo gallego (Ed’s favorite) and fried artichokes – which are like artichoke chips.  OMG the best!!!  Great choice!

Except for the fact that we are back at the hotel all too soon. But, whatever.  We’ll just have our beer and wine downstairs in the garden, and then move to our balcony to watch the La Rambla madness,, which is much reduced on  Sunday night.  We sit on the balcony, checking the football scores and watching all the people walking La Rambla.  Hey – it’s a great Sunday night!

One last hotel thing – they are so smart – they have pictures next to all the switches in the room. It’s great – you know where to put the key to turn on the lights, the a/c, the fan, the electric shade to block the light – everything. Ingenious! Smile

So, another great end to another great travel day!  Tomorrow – the Vision of the Seas.
