1/31–Chinese New Year day 2

Today is once again, a celebration of Chinese New Year.  We’re up at our normal time, in the gym and back to the condo to pack.  We are moving to another unit this afternoon, so we want to be ready to go once we get back from our lunch at the market. It’s really easy to pack since half our clothes are at the laundry – which we can see drying from our balcony!

Next door, the Shangri La is having their acrobat and dragon parade demonstration today.  You can see it from our balcony too, and since we are heading back to the Warorot market for lunch today – we go out to take some pix of the dragon at the hotel.

Then it’s off to the market again – this time to eat though! It’s just as nuts as ever – tons of people, lots of music, demonstrations, singers, small dragons that look more like dogs.

We take our time meandering through all the food. Ed satisfies his omelet craving with a huge crispy seafood egg – I even take a couple bites (of the crispy egg only part) and it’s pretty darn good.

Next up, we have a Chiang Mai sausage on a stick – much easier to eat as we wander around!

Then we finally find some egg rolls on a side street.  Yum. Fresh out of the pot too – they are so hot – we need to walk around a bit and wait until we eat them.  Then we find the little bacon wrapped mushrooms which were so good at the walking market.  3 skewers of those and we’re done for the day!  Although I can’t resist topping off the afternoon with this fried pastry sheet looking thing that is 25b and just crispy semi-sweet goodness to counteract all the good savories we’ve just consumed.

Back home, we shower and finalize our packing, and wait to be moved to the other building.  We knew it would be late afternoon, but by about 5, we decide we’d best ask.  We thought someone would come get us, but apparently the signals got crossed, so when I went down to the desk, they just gave me the keys to the new place.  Off we rolled with our bags, then a 2nd trip for the food and we were settled. And wow! What a place! Totally unexpected.  We knew we’d have to move, but long story, because of some screw up in the reservations what we thought would be a 1 bedroom unit is actually a 2 bedroom, 2 bath unit with a larger kitchen, an actual dining table and a leather sofa with flat screen TV.  Really great! Our last 2 weeks here will be livin’ in luxury!

Settled in – we pick up our laundry (I love the little underwear balls!)

Enjoy a little time on the balcony then head to Roadside, where I finally have my Pad Thai, Ed has some awesome noodle dish that looked like flat dumplings and tasted so good, and we shared chicken wings. Listened to 2 good singers, learned more Thai words from the precious bartender, and then wandered home to sit on the balcony and watch the lanterns float all over the sky to celebration Chinese New Year.
