1/30–Warorot Market and Chinese New Year

Our final morning at the Little Village is peaceful.  Breakfast pancake for me again (yummy) and omelet for Ed. Then we pack, and Tuo’s brother takes us back into town.  We arrive back at Twin Peaks a little before 11 and, since it is Chinese New Year, decide to hoof it over to the Warorot market for the annual festivities.

It’s so wild over here – all the food stalls and the street stands and the music and people. We just love walking around and people watching!  Since we are still too stuffed to eat, we just peruse the food stalls. Everything looks so awesome!  There is pork that they chop right in front of you then put in a bag to takeaway, Chinese noodle balls, sushi (which no way in hell would I try in this heat!), whole roasted chicken, whole crispy salted fish, these delicious looking seafood omelets and a whole assortment of fried stuff (from chicken to french fries to you name it!).

Plus, there are these little lovelies - Quails roasting on the spit! http://youtu.be/NEbbBnYZQBU

And a couple stands that are making Sugar Cane juice video: http://youtu.be/moGABUdYcNk

We finally succumb and buy a bag of fried pumpkin – which is pretty much like fried zucchini and totally tasty!

The only thing we aren’t drooling over are these bizarre black jelly looking blocks that they carve off, or make into cubes, put into a glass and pour milk or some other liquid over. Ick. Everyone is buying them, but I can’t even stomach looking at the jelly stuff!

Back home after our little adventure, we just relax and read – then stay in with our left over sweet and sour chicken listening to all the firecrackers blowing off around us.  Nice way to spend the Chinese New Year.
