We arrive back in our room to find another towel surprise:
This time with the sweetest note from the maid wishing us a merry Christmas. How long does it take her to write all these notes? Crazy – but crazy nice!
There is also this creepy looking person type towel art in the bathroom, sitting on the sink counter that I think is watching us. It totally creeps me out – and is summarily disassembled! Otherwise – towel art gets an A on this trip!
Tonight we are meeting in the bar for a farewell drink with Steve – so we troop down at the appointed time and have our goodbye drinks with the group. Then we’re back on the bus for Hotel Ambos Mundos – which means “both worlds”.
This is the hotel where Hemingway stayed (in room 511) and wrote For Whom the Bell Tolls. It is right off the Plaza Armas (where the used booksellers are) and at the heart of the old town of Habana. And tonight, when we arrive, apropos to the Hemingway history, the film crew of “Papa” is here filming for the movie. Our dinner is on the rooftop terrace and we head up in groups in the old iron elevator.
The rooftop terrace is wonderful – views around the old town and out into the bay of Habana encircle the terrace. Lots of pink sandstone, ferns and ambience up here!
We are served a wonderful dinner of cream of onion soup with mustard custard on top (yummy!), shrimp and fish with a creamy, tasty sauce and yes, chocolate Helado!
After dinner, a band begins, and so does the dancing! Maggi and Richard and a host of others swing into gear, while we sit back and enjoy the ambience, the cool night air and the toe tapping Cuban music.
All too soon it’s time to leave…our last night in Cuba! As we make our way downstairs – we take one last picture – I’m sitting on the same sofa that “Papa” was sitting for the movie shoot! Will have to see if it looks familiar when the movie is released!
Back to our little hotel bar, our final cocktail in Cuba, then off to bed. Tomorrow…it’s Adios Cuba!
