10/8 Halifax, Nova Scotia

Jettisoned the car here as well!  Weather is overcast and raining.  And there are 4, count them 4, ships in port. No way do we want to be driving around in the rain on the crowded roads. Had originally planned to hang out on the ship, then go out and do a pub crawl in the afternoon. But the weather was so yucky, and we were docked in the commercial port, where we had to take a shuttle down to the regular port area, so we decided to just go out first thing and then see what the day brought.

We wanted to go to the Farmer’s Market we had missed last week when we were here, so we headed there.  They weren’t open!  Geez! But, we had the computer, and they had wi-fi, so it actually worked out wonderfully. We could catch up on all our emails without a million people clogging up the bandwidth, and we managed to waste enough time on the web that the market was open by the time we were down! Yay!

Market was ok, local cheese, produce, meats, things we sure couldn’t use. Also crafts. But the best thing was the marshmallow stand. Local, hand made marshmallows called Maritime Marshmallows, with fresh ingredients and flavors.  I tried a pumpkin marshmallow – OMG – ecstasy!  But since we were hiking about, I didn’t want to buy any and have them smashed in the backpack – so we put that off for later.

We wandered the seaside promenade, looking at the different restaurants and souvenir stores.  Walked all the way down to the end and past a bunch of sidewalk kiosk food stalls, one of which I wish was open!

…then back down to the port and…..the marshmallows!!!  We ended up getting 3 packs (well, come on – she had a 3 for deal!) – Mint Choco chip, Pumpkin and Peanut Butter Choco chip.  Oh are we bad!!!

Back on the ship for lunch and we just hung out watching the monsoon and the people coming and going from our ship and the RCL ship docked across from us.

Sun finally broke through and we enjoyed some sun bathing on the balcony before sailing to St. John.  And then later that evening a great sunset!
