10/6–Cornerbrook, Newfoundland

Dawn breaks on a cold, windy and overcast/rainy day. Yuck!  We had tried to get a rental car to go explore one of the national parks about 90 minutes away.  Unfortunately there were none to be had on Sunday – no one was open. So we decided to stay in town and walk the trails around the little city.

The town had provided a shuttle service that ran around town all day, so we hopped aboard to get a quick overview of the town.  It’s a very small little area, and we saw just about all of it on the shuttle.  We went first to the “outskirts” and the shopping districts – a mall, the shopping plaza (both closed because it is early on a Sunday!), then into the downtown area, where we hopped off the shuttle at the Government Center.

Here we walked a few blocks and turned onto one of the Cornerbrook Stream Trail which looped us around a beautiful lake and then back into the main town area.  It was cold and a little windy, but the scenery and the color were fantastic! And the skies cooperated while we walked with no rain!

Back into the town, we found another trail called the Three Bear Mountain trail – which we thought was appropriate!  We hiked up there and took all the loops. It has great vistas overlooking all the town, but unfortunately most places you looked had the massive paper factory in the background, sort of messing up the scenic part of the overlooking!

We walked back into town, which was very small and sleepy on a Sunday morning. So, we decided to just hoof it back to the ship, which wasn’t that far at all, and hang out the rest of the day, watching the rain (thank you for cooperating while we were outside!) and wind.
