10/1 day at sea

The weather is getting warmer and the sun is shining brightly today. We got up, tried the Internet – not much there – down loaded some messages, wouldn’t send any. I did some work before morning trivia, then lunch and then we actually got to sit outside in the sun! Yay! Spent the day much like any other, except, as we knew it would happen eventually, today was the day the Trivia Nazi’s showed themselves.

We played our usual morning game, and lost, as usual. Came back for more abuse in the afternoon – and little did we know – we’d really get abuse. Traded our paper with another team behind us (the usual way we do). They looked at it and came over to ask us what our last answer was, and could we spell it: What was the name of the witch that greeted Dorothy in Oz? We answered Glenda, and told them. Went through all the answers and the team we were scoring got a perfect 20 score! We were pretty impressed and of course ticked off at ourselves for missing 2 simple questions – which of Popeye’s eyes is permanently closed and what year is considered the Diamond anniversary. Ok, so we lost by our normal 2 points. But we were so close. The team we traded with won with a perfect score.

So as Isabella, the entertainment staff trivia moderator, was coming around to see who won – the team (that won with the perfect score) started questioning her about how to spell Glenda – was it with an e or and I? Who cares? For heaven’s sakes! They won! We lost. It doesn’t matter. But they went on and on to her. She finally turned away and came over to us and said in a hushed tone – just so you know, they counted Glenda wrong, but spelling doesn’t matter, so don’t worry about it. We told her we were giving them an A for effort, but an F for attitude! Geez!

Then, we get our paper back – and they also counted Pyrenees wrong because I left off the extra e! Honestly….these people are crazy! Spelling never counts on these things – too many nationalities and too many different people – if the essence of the answer is correct, it’s correct. So, Isabella goes over to give the team their prize of baseball caps – and they are still moaning. She comes to our table to pick up pencils and we’re still in disbelief on the Pyrenees thing – she says – it doesn’t matter – and drops 2 hats on our table! Of course we immediately put them on and looked over at the other team! Oh my gosh – we sure hope they are getting off in Beijing! But at least we’ve memorized their faces and we aren’t trading papers with them any more!
