4/10–New Mangalore Heritage Village

The Heritage Village is exactly what it says – a village that shows us the old ways of living here in India. Sandra takes us on a tour for about 45 minutes or so and we get to watch a potter make vases from scratch (I love that, it’s always fascinating to me to see potters work)….

…how sesame seeds were hand processed to extract oil – complete with the oxen pulled grinder….

…how the blacksmith heated the iron to create the traditional swords/knives that the Indians used….

…then onto a traditional Indian house, set up just as it would have been ages ago.  Here there are interesting exhibits showing traditional dress for celebrations and dances….

…and a tableau that includes Grandma passing stories down to her grandchildren…

It’s all pretty interesting, if not for a few of the more scary costumes!

Back in the van, with everyone whining about the heat (you are in India people! what did you expect?) we head to another temple, Gogarnatha, where they are holding a big wedding which will be fascinating to see in person.
