2/7–Chiang Mai Flower Festival continues

We have a busy day today. This morning we head to the Flower Festival park to look at all the floats.  They’ve changed the format from last time, and there are only a few floats here, but it is still nice to see them all up close.  The intracy and the detail are just amazing.

We wander down through the floats and around the southwest walls

looking at all the different food and vendor stalls.  Hmmm… Bunch of Mush.  Think we’ll pass on that one.  LOL.

We pass the fried “crippy” fish and the quail roaster …

,,, but end up with the quail eggs lady (yummy – they are done just right.

Next we have the pork patties, grilled over charcoal, and then fried squid, of which I neglected to take a picture.

We finish off our snacking extravaganza with roasted bananas dipped in coconut milk.  Oh – truly addicting (oh and only 5 baht each – that’s like 14 cents US).

Snacking complete – we head back toward the entrance to the park in search of a Tuk Tuk. They are all inflating their prices since they know they’ll have a captive audience, and we’re just not into be extorted. So in the end, we walk home. It’s a nice enough morning, on the cool side, so we just take it easy, and make it back on our own time.

The evening meal finds us at Dash Teakhouse meeting Lesley, our acquaintance from Hanoi.  We’ve made reservations (thankfully!) for 6:30, but end up being really early. We were going to go have a drink at the Lost Hut, but when we tell Dash we are here and early, he says he prefers us early to not showing up at all, and escorts us to our table (complete with our own bug spray, as usual!).

Lesley is really early too, so it all works out, and we spend the next 3 hours slowly making our way through an excellent meal of Tom Kha Gai (coconut chicken soup for Ed and Lesley), Moo Yang (grilled pork with 3 dipping sauces), Sweet and Sour shrimp (for Lesley) and pork belly something or other on roti for me.

It is all super good, and a wonderful time, even if the place is slam packed with because of Chinese New Year.  Wow.  It is crazier than we’ve ever seen it, but the slow service works for us because we are just chatting away, enjoying the night, the atmosphere and the great company.
