4/16–More Botanical Gardens

Another tropical day – clouds, sun, quick rain showers and great breezes.  We do our beach walk and coffee, then head to Kaneohe to the FedEx Office to print out our cruise docs (don’t know where they ended up , but they aren’t in our file!) and then to the Ho’omaluhia Botanical Gardens.

We’ve been here before, and loved it. The grounds are amazing and last time we just walked around the lake. This visit, we are driving out through this different gardens and walking the main road, which is gorgeous, snuggled up against the Ko’olua Mountains.  The scenery is just spectacular and makes for a fabulous walk.

We ended up going to the lake to walk more – and as we were parking met a very friendly chicken who seemed to like us and just stood there, posing, while we took pictures (along with the little morning dove).

This time, we walked around the lake on the opposite side of the dam.  Very  different, very much more forest and foliage, ducking under vines and trees.  Nice!

The rest of the day was spent hanging out in the backyard – alternating between sun and running from the rain!  Then dinner at the Kailua Thursday Farmer’s Market where I had an awesome Kalua Pig burrito which was Kalua pig, cabbage and tomatoes in some sort of sweet pancake like thing that was fried to make it a little crispy. Awesome!  Ed had a grass fed beef burger with bleu cheese, salsa, sautéed onions, apple wood smoked bacon and  BBQ sauce.  Again – awesome!!

After eating we shopped a bit, cherry tomatoes, apple bananas (Thai!!! Love these!  get them all the time at the Chinese market in Chiang Mai – they also had Mangostines, which we love, but at $19.99 a pound, we had to pass), and a low acid pineapple.  Really?  And it was cheap! Hopefully they are telling the truth, but for $2.75 – we’re not passing that up!

It’s only 6:00pm, so we end up at the a little dive bar we’ve been before. Unfortunately, they have run out of Pinot Grigio – so Ed has a beer, I have water, and we end up just heading home to hang out, reading in the back yard, with the great breeze and my own Pinot Grigio in the fridge.  LOL.
