3/7 - Civitavecchia

Back in the car, Alice directs us to Tarquinia again, because we are on a Porchetta hunt.  We get back to the main town, find the Porchetta sign, but it appears to be a Salumeria (sort of a delicatessen), and we’re really in the mood for a real Porchetta sandwich.  We continue on up the main street, heading back to the Necropolis and Ed spies a sign that he thinks says Porchetta.  I didn’t see it – so we turn around and circle back.  We eventually find it- Oggi Porchetta.  Ok!  We’re in.

We park on the side of the road, and walk back to the store – which turns out to be a little grocery store with a deli in the back – where lo and behold – there is the Porchetta.  We manage to pantomime and speak in our broken Italian enough to get a thick slice of Porchetta (I was asking for 1/2 kilo, they were pantomiming slices! Whatever, it works), and we walk out with 5.25 E worth of lovely Porchetta.

No bread – just meat – we unwrap it in the car, and devour it right there on the side of the road!

Oh.  Heaven in Italia! Although, to be honest, the Porchetta Ed makes at home is just as good.  But still, this is wonderful – especially the situation, the deli, the broken Italian, the car.  It doesn’t get better!

Back in Civi, we turn in the car, the Hertz guy asks “What’s with the Porchetta” and laughs when we tell him we just love it and make it at home. We walk back toward the ship, stopping at a little café for beer, wine and wi-fi.  We get a feast to go along with our internet.

Chips, salsa, olives, peanuts, it’s a feast for a king!  Unfortunately the wi-fi stinks, but, the food and beverages are good!  We hit our little grocery store for supplies, then head back onboard to sit on our balcony while the rest of the ship does the Muster drill – it’s nice to be back to back in the same cabin!

Off to our next cruise…..looking forward to no wind and warmer temps.
