2/26–Sea Day

Cold and windy sea day, but a beautiful sunrise.  We woke up later than usual, had our coffee in the room (advantage NCL!  Coffee makers in the room!  Heaven), then hit the gym – which was surprisingly empty.  We’ll see how long that lasts.

Got cleaned up and wandered down to the atrium to sign up for the ship’s tour. While we were there, we sat in the coffee lounge for a bit, realizing the cooking demonstration was starting in a bit there. So we figured we’d stay to watch.

There was a table of officers next to us, and we were all just hanging out minding our business.  Then this guy strolls into the Atrium with a white sailors hat on, and a dress white shirt with captain’s stripes.  It’s not the captain though, it’s this nutso guy who was on our shuttle bus with us – he’s got a really distinctive scaggly beard – two huge hanks of which are grey and wiry, and yesterday he was dressed more like a Harley Davidson biker.  (He still has the chains on his pants today, actually.)  So – we’re sitting there thinking – uh oh – this can’t happen can it?  One of the shop girls squeals and laughs, and shouts – “look it’s our master of the vessel!”  Well, the officers next to us are all a buzz – they’re watching this guy and whispering – and Ed and I are just waiting for them to do something. Sure enough, one of the officers gets up and wanders over to where the guy is talking to the shop folks. He watches for a while, then goes over and introduces himself, says something, then they both walk off together.  We’re thinking to the brig!  Impersonating an officer.  I mean really – that can’t be allowed. What would happen if he said or did something – and people don't realize he’s not the real captain?

Too funny!

The cooking demo is fun – and we’re in the cat bird seats.  Right up front – so we got good samples of the Lobster poached in butter and the Kung Pao chicken.  Nice snack before lunch.

Returning to the room, I get a nice little birthday treat.

How sweet!  First ever present from a cruise line on my birthday.  Very nice way to start the day.

Tonight is Latitudes cocktail party (which I’m pretending is special for my birthday…LOL) and reservations at Le Bistro.
