1/1 - Winging our way to the West Coast

New Year’s Day.  Happy 2015!  We are up and about fairly early, even though we’ve spent our New Year’s Eve celebrating way too late at the new Poseidon Rooftop bar.  But nonetheless, we are still twiddling our thumbs as we waste time until leaving for our 2:30p flight to Houston and onto SFO.  It’s actually refreshing to have so much time at home before we leave. We’re packed and ready, so I even have time to clean and do the floors! Smile

We finally head out to the Candlewood Suites, where we have pre-paid to park the car for our trip, only to find that the hotel’s shuttle isn’t running due to the holiday. Huh?  (Well, we actually had prior knowledge of this, because we had called the day before to see about timing, but we were hoping they were mistaken.)  The desk clerk calls her manager, who tells her we have to take a cab.  We were afraid of this too – we’re only maybe a mile from the airport so what cabbie wants to get out of the airport queue to come pick us up?  After almost 45 minutes of waiting – no cab shows. So – we punt and go park on the airport grounds.  Way more expensive – but it’s either that or miss the flight. NOT!

Being Savannah, we’ve no problem at all checking our bag and going through security.  Bonus! I have Pre-check this time – and Ed doesn’t.  Ha!  Not that it matters, there are maybe 3 people ahead of us in line at security.

IMG_3793We’re at the gate with plenty of time – so I commence my parking phone calls, leaving detailed instructions with the phone call center regarding our issue and requesting a full refund.  They say they’ll have management contact us.  That handled, we wait patiently to board our plane and our West Coast Journey!

The flights actually go pretty smoothly.  In Houston we have enough time for a quick beer and wine, as well as picking up some great chicken wrap sandwiches for the plane (absolutely huge! And only $9 each – a bargain for airport food.  The sandwich is so huge, I can’t eat it all and save it for hotel snacks).  We are only a few minutes late getting into SFO.  We call for the hotel shuttle, which is arrives pretty quickly, we check in, and head directly across the street to the liquor store for beer and wine. Once supplies are laid, we settle into our room to relax and hit the bed – it may only be 10PM PST, but it’s way past our bedtime EST.
