5/27 Cherbourg, France

Today is a do nothing day.  We are just going to wander around town and, well, do nothing.  There is a big exhibition going on in town to honor the Titanic, and they have timed it to coincide with our arrival.  How cool!

The town is quite cute and very walkable. We ditch the shuttle and walk into town – it’s easy, flat and only takes 10 minutes.  Once there, we check out the planned festivities.  We’re early (what a surprise), so we watch as they set up the main square with exhibits and food stalls. Then, off for cappuccino.  Had to settle for Café au lait, which was fine.  Then back to wandering.  It’s Sunday, so normally everything would be closed, but since they have planned this festival, a lot of the shops are opening. Pretty cool.

We stroll around, and stumble on a quaint old-world courtyard that’s perfect for photo ops!

Back on the square, we’re greeted with bands and old fashioned wooden wheeled bicycle demonstrations, not to mention current French food – a chorizo sandwich and sausage sandwich with fries worked perfectly for lunch.  capped off with beer, wine and free internet – perfect day on land for us!
