We’re off – flew out of Sanford, FL, on Iceland air. FL to Iceland to Copenhagen. Ate dinner at the airport- no food on this flight unless you pay for it (hey, the flight was so cheap – food even at airport prices was a bargain!). Flights all went off without a hitch – all on time (actually an hour early into Reykjavik), and we arrived in Copenhagen around 2ish as planned. Bags took forever to come, but then we were on the train and into town in no time.
Checked into the Mayfair hotel, in the Vestpro area, and settled into our little room. The hotel is great – all redone a couple of years ago – and totally feng shui with candles, flowers, plants, etc. – it’s also a huge bonus because they believe in “all inclusive” – which means a breakfast buffet (huge, with eggs, bacon, cheese, fruit, pastries, you name it), an afternoon coffee/tea time (with snacks), and a “lite” evening buffet (which trust us, you can make dinner!). Don’t even have to eat outside the hotel – just use the buffets for food – and hit the streets.
That’s exactly what we did on Sunday after we checked in. Buffet at 6 – then off to O’Leary’s (yes, here we go, an Irish bar in Copenhagen?) for – are you ready….for some football! They are a New England Patriots bar (go figure), and they always have American football on. I got totally lucky – they were showing Minnesota! Yay! So we sat at O’Leary’s, drinking Carlsberg beer, eating “hot buffalo wings” – which turned out to be really hot teriyaki wings that were excellent – and watching American Football Nice!
Back at the hotel at half time – I fell right asleep, Ed watched the end of the game and then finally succumbed to the 36 hours of awake time! Great first half day in Denmark.
