1/6–1/8–Travel days

The beginning of our very long travel day(s) in Savannah.  Not what you want to see on the runway…or off it as the case may be!

Small plane crash at 8:30am.  They took off, then had to come back, and, well this is where they ended up. Right outside the window from our gate.  2 Passengers, both survived, fortunately, but it was still a little disturbing before starting our 30 hour odyssey to Phnom Penh!!

All was well with travels though (fortunately!).  All flights went off without a hitch, although a couple were a bit late which worried us on the connections.  Savannah to IAD was fine – then in IAD we asked if we could upgrade to Economy plus or something – and we ended up getting exit row which was huge.  No one in front of us, so we could stretch our legs out and try to sleep.

Plus met the greatest flight attendant who was over-nighting in London.  Just adorable – talked to her the whole descent and landing.

We had to rush to get to the long London to Bangkok flight – geez – immigration in Heathrow was the pits.  You have to walk the whole length of the concourse to get to security, where you have to go through once again.  Then another line for passport control, then walk all the way back to where you just came in at the gate to get to you departing flight. What a joke! They were boarding by the time we got there and we had almost 2 hours!

But all was well once aboard because we had awesome seats!  2x2 upstairs in a 380 – right behind Business class. Tons of space – good food and movies and sleep time!

Pretty nice, huh?  so, the long flight worked out well. We watched 2 movies – The Martian and 99 Houses.  The Martian – awesome.  99 Houses – not so much.  Sort of disturbing. But, heck it made the time go by.

Bangkok to Phnom Penh was easy – 1 hour – no sweat and we arrived….30 hours and 2 days later – on Friday morning Jan 8!

Visas went through without a hitch – right through Passport control. Bags there (big huge sigh) and out the door we go to meet our driver who is right there as well.  Yay! We are here!
