1/24–Hong Kong Day 2

It is 37 degrees with freezing rain.  We are not going anywhere today!  All the news reports it is the coldest weather in Hong Kong in about 60 years.  Great!  More power to the intrepid souls who are venturing out today.  Had we not spent a few days in the past here, we would probably gone outside, too, but instead we do decide to walk through the terminal shops.  It is a huge cruise port terminal, built on the old Kai Tak airport runway.  There is even a runway tour at 1Pm we are thinking about taking.  We go out in the morning, though to walk upstairs in the gardens  - which would be incredibly lovely if it weren’t 37 degrees with freezing rain!

Thus, we make short work of the walk across the gardens and into the shops – which are – well – like airport duty free shops.  Nothing in the least bit interesting, but it got us off the ship for a bit, and got us free wifi. So, that’s all good.

We forge our way back through the wind and rain, down the elevator to the parking lot, back the half mile to loading zone B then up the escalators and back another half mile to the ship gangway – did I mention this place was monstrous?

Back aboard we scratch the runway tour – as interesting as it probably would be (along with the free bag and free glass of wine) we’re not in the mood to be that cold again. So we have lunch then plop ourselves in the Cosmos lounge to watch the sailaway.  We probably would have been better off on the runway tour!

We get great seats – but it is frigid in there!  I don’t think they’ve got the heat on, and we have to run back to the room for more sweaters and jackets – and also pool towels to wrap ourselves up in!  Frigid!

We pass the time reading and taking bad pictures through the windows as we silently sail out of the harbor.
